UNGASS Updates

This section is dedicated to tracking compliance with the Declaration of Commitment, 2001, the single most important international HIV/AIDS policy instrument in the fight against AIDS.

By signing the Declaration countries agreed to time-bound commitments and a regular process to review their progress in meeting those commitments. A number of years have past since the Declaration was signed. As AIDS campaigners we have to keep the memory of the UNGASS promises and the enthusiasm to achieve them as alive as if those commitments were made yesterday.

2008 Shadow Reports

31 January 2008 was the deadline for countries to submit 2008 universal access progress reports to UNAIDS. These reports were based on a set of 25 core indicators, which were laid out via these guidelines provided by UNAIDS. To date 132 countries has submitted progress reports. Click here to read these reports.

As a companion to these country progress reports, many civil society organisations have written shadow reports. Please see below to download these reports as well as updates on reporting processes. More reports will be posted as they become available.

Shadow reports were also prepared prior to the UNGASS Review Meeting in 2006. Click here to read them.

Civil Society Task Force

The Office of the President of the General Assembly requested the creation of a Civil Society Task Force to be convened to assist in key decisions relating to attendance and participation of civil society organisations in the UNGASS High Level Review Meeting to be held in New York on 10 and 11 of June, 2008. The role of representatives is unpaid but expenses and travel will be covered by UNAIDS. Below you will find a list of task force members.
